Kalush community keeps looking for an investor to resume the extraction of potassium-magnesium fertilizers

   Kalush community is looking for an investor to resume the extraction of potassium-magnesium fertilizers, aiming to create about 2,500 jobs. The initiative depends on the government, as the assets belong to the state-owned enterprise “Oriana.” Mayor Andrii Naida emphasizes that this is crucial for the food security of the country.

   The Mayor of Kalush Andrii Naida has shared this information with “Galka” during an interview.

   According to his words, the city is focusing on sustainable development and strives to attract only eco-friendly industrial enterprises with modern treatment systems. He recalled that Kalush was once designated an environmental disaster zone; however, in his opinion, most of the environmental problems remain unresolved.

   The Mayor is convinced that resuming the extraction of potassium-magnesium fertilizers could be one of the key solutions. According to his statement, the deposits in Kalush and Stebnyk could sustain extraction for approximately 50 more years.

   At the same time, he emphasized that the implementation of the project depends on the government, since the assets are owned by the state-owned enterprise “Oriana,” which is subordinate to the State Property Fund of Ukraine. According to the Mayor, due to constant changes in the management of the enterprise, the issue remains unresolved.

   Andrii Naida also stated that launching production requires a decision at the national level, specifically by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, since, in his view, the food security of the country depends on it.

   “When sanctions were imposed at the beginning of the full-scale war, many investors came to us wanting to resume the extraction of potassium-magnesium fertilizers. Now we see that the U.S. is already negotiating with Belarus regarding potassium supplies, because Europe is in great need of these fertilizers.”
